Norwich FarmShare (NFS) is a Not-for-Profit Community Benefit Society. NFS is community owned and when you buy a veg bag or donate you are also becoming a member of the Community Supported Agriculture project and helping to keep the farm running!
Started originally in 2010, NFS was begun by a group of around 50 Norwich residents who were concerned about the failing local food supply. After receiving a generous lottery grant, the farm was started on a piece of land in Postwick in 2011 and then moved to our current 3-acre site in Whitlingham (just South of the city) in 2018.
There’s a strong emphasis around involving and educating the Norwich community in the importance of local, seasonal and chemical free food production. In the time that the project has been running it has been reliant on volunteers to help with all aspects of growing, packing, marketing and community engagement and over the years there have been over 700 Norwich residents who have been part of the growing community!
Alongside the brilliant team of volunteers and a board of directors there have been a number of growers who are employed by NFS. The current growers are Laura and Jenny and they’re the people who you’ll most likely deal with if you email to ask a question. As well as growing the food, curating the veg bags, running the Tuesday volunteer sessions and dealing with the day to day budgeting, wholesale orders and more… the growers are also part time, so if there’s a small delay in their response this is why!
It's important for us that people who buy our veg know that they’re also buying into a local sustainable food network. Most of the vegetables are grown on the farm and anything we buy in is from other local farms and market gardens around East Anglia. All of this is unsprayed and grown with organic principles in mind and we strive to bring the finest quality produce to our members as well as introduce them to some fun new vegetables too!
